Why I Believe in Happily Ever After

Today marks my Mom and Dad’s 63rd  wedding anniversary. People are amazed by that fact, given the propensity for divorce these days. When asked about the longevity of their marriage, my mother says,”We’ve had three glorious years. The days weren’t consecutive.” My father insists they stay together “due to a lack of imagination.” I think their secret is they’ve managed to retain a sense of humor and a commitment to their relationship. Goodness knows, marriage isn’t easy. As a matter of fact it’s hard work. This year the Devoted Hubby and I will celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. Has it been perfect? Of course not. We’ve had our share of whopper arguments. But we’ve also had a helluva lot of fun. At the end of the day, he’s my best friend, and we both know we’re in this for the long run. My advice to new couples? Love hard, fight fair and keep a sense of humor.
